SOLD OUT SHOW for Kablooey Group!

The “Improv: Games & Stuff” event for Loft 125 was a rousing success!

WE DID IT!

What a night! According to the Decatur Area Arts Council’s Sue Powell, who coordinated this event, they were turning people away at the door. We couldn’t be more thrilled with not only the turnout but the fact that everyone who came out came to PLAY. After all, this was an interactive event!

Sue Powell introduces The Kablooey Group at the premiere Loft 125 event.

The night began with our brief “walk-thru” of what the crowd could expect for the evening (basically a sketch), followed by the Kablooey Four (Jerry, Jay, Rachel, and Doug) performing a quick game of Freeze Tag. Then we lead the entire audience (just under one hundred people) through “Full Group Games” that encouraged everyone to participate while not feeling singled out. These were warm up games to allow folks time to acclimate to the idea of jumping up and jumping in to game play.

After a brief ten minute break where participants were encouraged to do all sorts of side silliness provided by the Arts Council, we broke everyone up into groups for a run of the Ad Game. This is a game that encourages the idea of accepting, the classic principle of “Yes, and…” if you will. With the size of our crowd this game took a decent chunk of time but it was extremely enjoyable watching what all the groups came up with and presented.

One more break and then we entered into the Performance Games. We were cautiously optimistic we’d have participants brave enough to jump up with us and try their hand at games likes ABC Conversation or Party Quirks, and ready to straight up perform ourselves if we didn’t have any takers. We needn’t have worried! Folks were enthusiastically open to playing, so much so that we ended up extending the night by a full thirty minutes! The night concluded with one final Kablooey performance.

All in all it was an incredible event, and we are so thankful the Decatur Area Arts Council invited us to be their premiere performance group for Loft 125!
